Welcome To Deer Cameras .net!

I have to be honest. When I first heard about using deer cameras for scouting, lots of things went through my mind. I had the mindset that I would have to fast-forward through hours of video footage with almost no chance of finding anything at all. After seeing what today’s deer cameras can do, I have to say that I am impressed and am now a convert.
Today’s deer scouting cameras use infrared to detect movement on a trail and then take a picture. So all you have to do is to set it up, program it, and then leave it! It’s very simple and the results can be amazing. Instead of having to wait for ages, you can use a deer scouting camera (often called a Trail Camera) to do the waiting for you. And these deer cameras don’t get bored, need to sneeze, or have to use the restroom! They are outstanding for checking out the deer activity in a certain area during the night. Additionally, the infrared flash is nearly invisible to the naked eye, and gives an amazing high resolution picture, even though it can be slightly tinted with red.

After my opinion changed regarding these deer cameras I discovered several tips to make my use even better:

- Don’t place your deer camera facing the sun. Just like with any camera, your pictures can be over exposed

-Clear grass, weeds, etc from in front of the camera. You want to make sure that you can get good pictures without any obstructions.

- Place the camera about twenty feet from the possible capture location.

- Place the deer cameras where you would expect to see deer activity such as near scrapes, rubs, mineral licks and food plots.

Deer cameras are an excellent way to discover deer activity in potential “hotspots”, or they can help identify if the deer in that location are even worth hunting. Large, experienced bucks are easier to scout using these trail cameras.

The main purpose is to learn as much as you can about the deer movement in your area, so that you can anticipate this activity during the hunting season. This is called “patterning” and do not expect to know exactly what time a a big buck will walk by a certain tree. With your deer camera footage you will better understand the habits of your local deer.

Keep in mind however that whatever you discover during off season you can almost throw away. Pay close attention to doe movement during pre rut, rut, and post rut. The bucks will often change their pattern and follow the does during this time of year. Bucks will also like to position themselves in an area where does will walk by on their way to feeding areas. So, when you see a doe during the rut you can almost bet that a buck is going to be close by.

But the best thing about deer scouting cameras is the amount of time that they can save you, as well as the information about the deer activity they can provide.
The lone disadvantage with deer cameras that I can see is that they can be some what expensive, and can also be stolen. Most of these cameras come with a locking system to prevent theft as well as to secure the camera to the tree.

To take your hunting to the next level with high-tech scouting deer cameras. They can prove to be a valuable investment!
